Come track with us at the Big Bend! Big Bend national park not only provides some of the most beautiful views in Texas but it is also home numerous and incredibly diverse wildlife species. Join us for this two day wildlife tracking adventure and gain an incredible window into the secret lives of the animals of Big Bend. Whether you are a naturalist, hiker, or just someone who appreciates wildlife, this class is for you. We will spend ample time in the field discovering and identifying tracks and sign left by mammals, birds,reptiles, amphibians & even insects. The class will spend one day down near the Rio Grande focusing on clear print identification and another day up in the Chisos basin deciphering the abundance of sign that these animals have left behind.
This course is open to all skill levels and every student is guaranteed to learn a great deal about the art and science of wildlife tracking.
Topics covered in the course will include:
Wildlife track and sign identification
Using animal foot morphology as a tool for identifying tracks
Basic animal gait interpretation
Wildlife behavior and local ecology
Recording tracks through sketching, plaster casting, and photographing
Utilizing tracking field guides as tools for continuing education
