“While trapping is probably the oldest pursuit of man, predating hunting and agriculture, it has not undergone many drastic changes since the first primitive attempts.”

WILDLIFE TRAPPING
In any survival situation food quickly becomes an issue. They say you can survive 30 days without food, but who wants to do that? To survive, and not just die as slowly as you can until you are rescued, you have to be able to obtain food. Edible plants are definitely a must in any survival situation, but fat and protein are vital and avocados don’t grow on trees in most parts of the world. Animals are the best source of fat and protein, but they can be incredibly illusive, and many are most are active during the night hours when our vision is impaired. Therefore, trapping is a must have skill for every survival skills practitioner.
Whether you are a budding wilderness skills practitioner or experienced hunter, trapping is a challenging method of providing food for yourself and your community that requires a deep exploration of animal habitat, behavior, and the natural world.
In this course, we will be exploring both primitive and modern traps and snares. You will learn when, where, for whom, and how to set traps and snares, and you will get some dirt time to practice making and deploying your sets.
Harvesting your own food can be deeply rewarding, an antidote to modern day agricultural and animal husbandry practices, and an ethical way of utilizing invasive or nuisance species that threaten native plants and animals. We seek to teach ethical and humane trapping practices and techniques in this course.
This course will teach you the principals behind a good trap design, how to build modern and primitive snare and deadfall traps and where to set them to maximize productivity.
