FARM & FOREST ROOTS
New Program in Bastrop!

Give your child the opportunity to connect with the land, care for animals, and explore nature in our exciting new Farm & Forest Roots Program. Designed for young adventurers and budding naturalists, this program combines hands-on farm chores, animal care, and outdoor skills with meaningful nature exploration. Your child will develop practical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of animals, agriculture, and the natural world around them.

What Your Child Will Experience:

  • Animal Care & Connection:

    • Daily involvement in the care of a variety of farm animals, including horses, miniature donkeys, goats, chickens, and pigs.

    • Helping to raise baby animals like chicks and ducklings, learning their needs, and observing their growth.

    • Bonding with animals through feeding, watering, brushing, and gentle grooming, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the creatures on the farm.

  • Farm Skills & Homesteading Projects:

    • Learning to use basic farm tools, including a pocket knife, safely and responsibly for farm tasks such as harvesting, food preparation, and simple repairs.

    • Gaining practical skills in farm chores such as fence repair, basic maintenance and repairs of farm equipment, and building simple structures.

    • Engaging in hands-on homesteading activities like making homemade pickles, soap making, and natural leather tanning using local materials like acorns and pecans.

    • Experiencing the process of growing, harvesting, and preserving food.

  • Outdoor Exploration & Nature Connection:

    • Practicing essential outdoor skills, such as safely starting, tending campfires, identifying local edible and medicinal plants, and navigating through the woods.

    • Learning to recognize common animal tracks, understand local ecology, and explore the natural history of the area, helping your child build a deeper relationship with the environment.

    • Participating in fun, light outdoor games and activities that encourage curiosity and a love of the outdoors.

Why the Farm & Forest Roots Program Is Right for Your Child:

  • Hands-On Learning: Your child will engage in meaningful, real-world tasks, from caring for animals to working on the farm and participating in creative homesteading projects.

  • Practical Skills: Your child will gain practical, everyday life skills that connect them to nature and cultivate a sense of responsibility, independence, and confidence.

  • Animal & Nature Connection: Through caring for animals and learning about the environment, your child will build a stronger connection to the natural world.

  • Safety & Responsibility: Through lessons on using an outdoor knife and farm tools safely, your child will learn valuable safety protocols and the responsible handling of tools.

  • Community & Teamwork: The program fosters collaboration, responsibility, and teamwork as your child works alongside peers and mentors in a supportive, nurturing environment.

  • Empowerment: As your child completes tasks and develops new skills, they will feel a sense of accomplishment and empowerment, building confidence in their abilities.

The Farm & Forest Roots Program is ideal for children who are curious about farm life, love animals and want to explore the outdoors in a hands-on, meaningful way. It’s a wonderful opportunity for your child to gain valuable skills, create lasting memories, and form a deep connection with the land and the animals they care for.
