The world around us is full of an incredible bounty of edible and medicinal wild plants that are even more packed with nutrients than most domesticated crops. Indigenous Americans and early settlers from across the world knew and utilized hundreds of our local plants in some form or fashion including for food and/or medicine. Unfortunately, in the U.S., this important ancestral human knowledge has largely been lost. But don’t fret, Earth Native is here to help keep this amazing knowledge alive for this generation and the next.

 

This class will teach you all of the things you need to know to start your wildcrafting journey, including basic plant identification, a handful of common local edible and medicinal plants, wild plant harvesting and preparation, how to identify and avoid the handful of toxic plants in our area as well as recommended resources that will help you to continue your learning journey. This class is an excellent pairing with our Field Botany class offered next on March 16th.  

This class will be taught by Earth Native’s resident plant and foraging expert, Eric Knight, co-author of Foraging Texas, Texas’ best and most user-friendly, Edible and Medicinal plant field guide (our humble opinion). Autographed field guides will be available for purchase during registration.

Ages: This is an adult class but open to ages 12+. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult participant with a 1:1 ratio. An enrollment and class fee must be received for each person attending, regardless of age.
