STICKS & STONES
Sticks and stones - the original tool and the original toy….
Human cultures have been using sticks and stones for tools since the dawn of their existence and their usefulness is only limited by our own imaginations.
This class will focus on putting stick and stone together to create a flint chip knife. Students will start with a flake of local flint and create a wooden handle for it, and then haft it. Each student will end up with their own primitive knife made from scratch with nothing but materials from nature.
Participants will also learn…
-
The basics of flint knapping – how energy moves through stone
-
Knife carving practices and knife safety
